REVIEW: Cora Cora Resorts - Maldives

When I first heard about the new kid on the block, Cora Cora Maldives, I knew from various news articles and publications that this resort would make a statement and do things a little differently compared to other 5-star resorts in the Maldives.

First Impressions & Setting

Nestled amidst the captivating allure of the North Raa Atoll, Cora Cora beckons travellers on a mesmerising 40-minute seaplane odyssey from the heart of Malé, the vibrant capital of Maldives.

Breathe in the fresh sea air and breathe out your worries. You’ve found your escape route to happiness.

Stepping off the seaplane, we were warmly welcomed by Maniu, our dedicated 'freedom coach' at Cora Cora. The arrival ceremony, filled with friendly staff, music, and fragrant floral necklaces, took place on the jetty.

Inside the reception area, we were not only offered refreshing chilled tea but also a chance to choose from unique temporary tattoos representing Cora Cora's spirit. This resort, revitalised in 2021 after the pandemic, redefines hospitality. It offers more than just a stay; it invites guests to 'find their freedom.' The usual stiff formalities of hotels vanish here, replaced by a warm, family-like atmosphere.

Set on a natural island, Cora Cora boasts flourished greenery under the sunny Maldivian skies. Exploring, we found one of the most vibrant coral reefs in the Maldives, showcasing the beauty of the surrounding ocean. Every corner of Cora Cora is adorned with modern artwork and lively colours, creating an atmosphere that blends sophistication with the joy of island living. Cora Cora is more than a resort; it's an enchanting world where elegance meets adventure, and every moment is filled with the spirit of freedom.

Rooms

In the lap of luxury, we resided in the enchanting Lagoon Pool Villa, perched over the Indian Ocean. This haven was a sanctuary of indulgence, adorned with every imaginable comfort: a well-stocked mini-bar, complete with tempting drinks and snacks, and the gracious offering of vibrant beach bags, totes, and flip-flops by Cora Cora.

The rooms, recently reborn in modern splendour, were adorned with a thoughtful selection of books, promising delightful reads for leisurely afternoons. Yet, the true allure lay in the villa's private oasis – a pristine pool overlooking the endless ocean vista, and my personal haven, the bathroom. Here, beneath the Maldivian sky, I discovered bliss in a rainfall shower, a luxurious freestanding bathtub, and an inviting open-air hammock.

While Cora Cora graciously provided a buggy service for convenience, the intimate island's charm truly unfolded during leisurely strolls. Each step was an invitation to uncover the island's secrets, a perfect fusion of convenience and the joy of exploration.

Dining

Tazaa, Cora Cora's all-day dining haven, effortlessly merges Eastern and Eastern culinary delights, creating a harmonious blend of tastes. Breakfasts here were a culinary adventure, offering a plethora of options ranging from an enticing buffet spread to exquisite made-to-order dishes. For health-conscious diners, Tazaa also presents a wellness menu, ensuring there's something for every palate and preference.

Teien, provides guests with an exquisite Japanese dining experience. Whether you opt for grab-and-go sushi at the bar or indulge in items from their Teppanyaki menu at a cosy table, every bite is a testament to the chef's artistry. As someone accustomed to Japanese cuisine in London, I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional quality of the food, setting the tone for a memorable evening.

Ginger Moon invites guests on a vibrant gastronomic voyage, offering an extensive Asian dining menu featuring flavours from the enchanting corners of Southeast Asia. From the aromatic spices of Thailand to the exotic tastes of Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, each dish is a celebration of colour and flavour. A culinary delight that ensures you'll be tempted to savour seconds, Ginger Moon is an absolute must-try.

Acquapazza charms guests with its Italian beach club vibe. An ideal spot for leisurely lunches and refreshing cocktails, the atmosphere here is as delightful as the food. Personal favourites included their delectable pizzas, perfect for a laid-back beach picnic. Whether you're in the mood for a relaxed meal at the restaurant or a takeaway treat to enjoy by the waves, Acquapazza caters to both moods effortlessly.

MyCoffee redefines the resort experience. This dedicated coffee bar, a unique concept, fosters a sense of community among guests. Beyond just serving teas and coffees, this standalone kiosk is a haven for book lovers and coffee enthusiasts alike. The tranquil ambience, paired with delightful options such as smoothies, juices, and ice creams, creates the perfect backdrop for relaxation and indulgence.

Experiences

Spa & Sound Healing: One of the most enchanting experiences during our stay, was immersing myself in the transcendent practice of Sound Healing. Picture this: reclining on the shores, the gentle waves echoing the melodious tunes of singing bowls. The therapeutic resonance of these sounds not only relaxed my body but also calmed my mind, creating a tranquil oasis. It was more than just a session; it was a journey into inner peace, where the soothing melodies of the Maldivian seascape became the soundtrack to my blissful escape.

Floating Breakfast: Indulging in a Floating Breakfast at Cora Cora Maldives was a surreal aquatic adventure. Waking up to find our breakfast served in our villa pool was nothing short of magical. Fresh fruits, gourmet delights, and aromatic coffee—all arranged on a floating tray against the backdrop of the endless ocean. It was a moment of pure bliss where culinary indulgence met the serenity of the sea, setting the tone for a perfect day in paradise.

Private Island & Snorkel Excursion: For an intimate encounter with the underwater wonders of the Maldives, we embarked on Cora Cora’s Private Island Snorkel excursion. Guided by their experts, we explored coral gardens teeming with exotic fish, sea turtles gliding by, and the playful dance of dolphins in the distance.

Dutch Onion Museum: In a surprising twist of cultural exploration, Cora Cora Maldives introduced me to the intriguing history of the Maldives through the Dutch Onion Museum. Stepping into this museum felt like stepping back in time, where ancient artefacts, historical exhibits, and captivating stories painted a vivid picture of the Maldivian heritage. It was not just a museum visit; it was a journey through time, offering us a deeper understanding of the Maldives' rich cultural tapestry. The Dutch Onion Museum added a layer of depth to my stay at Cora Cora, enriching my Maldivian experience with a touch of historical intrigue.

I thoroughly relished my time as part of Cora Cora's 'freedom time' experience, which is revolutionizing the hospitality industry. The resort boasts a brilliant fusion of vibrant, contemporary design and laidback island charm. Its well-thought-out layout effortlessly combines modern elements with a burst of colour, creating a visually stunning environment.

What truly set Cora Cora apart was the genuine connection one could establish with the employees. Engaging in casual conversations over coffee was a delightful routine, especially during their regular meet & greet nights. This personal touch added to the warmth of the stay. Furthermore, the resort offered a perfect balance between indulging in wellness activities and facilities or embracing a livelier atmosphere at the pool, complete with their talented house DJ and themed evenings.

Additionally, the seamless experience was amplified by the presence of the dedicated Cora Cora Maldives app. This innovative tool streamlined our stay, allowing us to effortlessly access the resort's daily schedule, receive updates, and receive tailored suggestions to enhance our experience.
